Last fall, I was approached by Brian Hickling to participate in his wild idea to create a “pop-up” agency that would exist in Halifax for one week. The Give Agency would only exist during the 5 day period, where marketing/communication freelancers would donate their time to help community organizations with their biggest marketing challenges. I jumped on this right away!
My role as Social Media Director was to create, design and manage all social media channels before, during and after the pop-up.
First came the social media strategy which I collaborated with Mike Maloney and Brian about. Then the community management. The Saturday before the event started on Monday, we had 5 followers on our Facebook Page. After identifying and promoting The Give Agency to Nova Scotia influencers, our friends and participating community organizations – we very quickly built a following of followers and within hours the media was calling (Marketing Magazine, CBC-TV, The Chronicle Herald etc). My phone was blowing up with new follower notifications.
During 5 days of The Give Agency, I listened for opportunities (short statements, interesting pictures, facts and stats etc.) to share on our social media channels. The idea was to engage audiences and give them behind-the-scenes access to the agency and its clients. All social media content (Facebook Page, Twitter and Instagram) is the result of my work.
I look forward to contributing to the next phase of The Give Agency as it moves to Canadian cities, and when it re-opens in Halifax next year.
